A Day in the Life
Written by: Kamia F. Slaughter
Have you ever stopped to think about how much you do in a day? So many of us work, go to school, care for family, and attend to personal obligations on a routine basis. At times, our days may seem predictable, as if we scurry through life on repeat. Other times, the spontaneity of events and decisions may leave us on the edge of our seats wondering what’s next for us.
If you’re like me, your days look vastly different on weekdays than weekends. On weekdays, I mostly work. Work consists of lots of reading, writing, and meetings. On weekends, I mostly play. Last weekend, for example, I took a mini road trip with a friend to visit more friends. We ate dinner and went to a lounge. The next morning, I prepped and led a virtual Sunday school lesson for church. I returned from the road trip and went to a pool party.
Though I gave you a quick synopsis of my weekend adventures, there is so much more that I omitted. Perhaps you’re wondering where I went or what my friend group looks like. You could even be curious about what type of church I attend or what outfits I wore to each activity. The details help paint a clearer picture of my experience and add nuance to what type of person I am and what I like to do.
I can assure you I’m not going on a rant about my days and life events for no reason. iRise Wellness, Inc. is beginning a new “A Day in the Life” series via Instagram that offers a glimpse into the lives of its board members. We’ll show you what we do, where we go, and who/what takes up most of our attention. I’m excited to participate and show you how my colleagues and I spend our time. This month, I challenge you to talk about your days more frequently and descriptively. Don’t reduce the mundanities of your life as too miniscule to share.
